The Quinotaur is a mythological sea creature mentioned in Frankish legends, often depicted as a half-bull, half-fish being. Its most notable appearance comes from a story in the Liber Historiae Francorum (a 7th-century chronicle), where it is said that the Merovingian dynasty's founder, King Merovech, was conceived when his mother was seduced by this creature while swimming in the sea. Historically, this legend added a mystical, semi-divine origin to the Merovingian line, which ruled over the early Frankish kingdom. In a humorous light, the idea of a sea bull impregnating a queen could be seen as a creative way to boost royal prestige, blending fantasy with politics.
